Do you read YA? Time travel?

Dear Reader,

I have a new novel on the way. Drafting is going very well because I am releasing it as a serial as I am writing.

What is the story about?

Run Toward Ruin

Every year, the five families gather for a conclave to determine the affairs of the Prince they have served for generations. While the families debate the work of the coming year, Darius’s crippled grandfather pursues a far darker goal: overthrowing the Prince and seizing power for himself. Trapped in the old man’s service, seventeen-year-old Darius sees no way to escape the life that has been chosen for him.

Then a rare celestial event changes everything. The teenagers of the five families discover they can slip back into the past, witnessing significant moments in their history. Hoping to prune away the rot and gain a new life, Darius makes what feels like a harmless change—he prevents the injury that left the old man crippled.

Instead of creating a better future, he destroys the present he knew. His grandfather remains a formidable and ruthless man. The balance between the five families fractures. And the Prince’s power stands on a precipice.

Darius must work alongside his peers to find the right fix, but nobody trusts the reckless fool who broke it all. At the same time he can’t ignore the repercussions of his grandfather’s coup.

Part thriller, part adventure, Run Toward Ruin is a fast-paced tale of time travel, political intrigue, and impossible choices where every step toward the truth risks making the future even worse. In the end, Darius must answer one haunting question: Can you ever escape your fate, or do the smallest acts carry the power to damn you to worse consequences?

When Oceans Dream at Plaatjieskraal

Dear Reader, It is always nice to find a book that excites you and then take it home. It is a little present between covers that you can savour at your leisure. But when I says taking a book home here I mean taking a book back to the place that made it what it is. When Oceans Dream is set in the Overberg in the Western Cape in a small coastal village called Plaatjieskraal. This is both a real place, and nowhere at all. Plaatjieskraal is a ghost town and the former settlement had been...

Way Up Here short story cover

Dear Reader, As you would know, when you sign up for a newsletter you might receive a series of welcome emails. It all depends on how the newsletter was set up. I have not paid much attention to it and have, I think, only had a welcome email that confuses more than anything else. I have a collection of short stories I have written over a time period of about fifteen years and I have decided to send these all out as a long running free fiction welcome sequence. Not all of them really, one of...
